As 2017 draws to a close, it’s only fair that we pick out the best word games that we had this year. Our criteria for picking word games had to be a strict one since there have been so many great games this year but we’ve managed to pick out the five best games that we think everyone should try out.

The following games are no doubt the cream of the crop and they’re more than capable of providing hours upon hours of enjoyment to anyone who gives it a shot.

Word Cookies

Word Cookies is a game in which players have to join together letters in a sequence in order to create words and, while a lot of word games use this particular play-style, Word Cookies seems to be among the best games of its kind since it’s immaculate on a technical level and has tons upon tons of challenging levels to complete.

Words with Friends 2

PvP word games are quite fun to play but they can be hard to pull off but Words with Friends is a game that successfully managed to execute the PvP word game formula in order to give players a competitive and intense experience to enjoy. Words with Friends 2 is has been designed by using the same fundamentals that were utilized in the first one but it seems to have a lot more polish and finesse thereby making it a lot more fun.

Wordscapes

Visuals are something that a lot of word games tend to forgo in favor of the gameplay but Wordscapes is a game that gives players top tier visuals alongside the spectacular gameplay and this is exactly why it has a spot on this list. Alongside being a delight to play, Wordscapes is a treat to look at as well and this is something that can’t really be said for a lot of word games.

Word Crossy

Word Crossy and the aforementioned Word Cookies are quite similar to one another but Word Crossy manages to set itself apart from the crowd by giving players various kinds of daily challenges to complete as they progress through the game. The challenges add a ton of depth to the overall gameplay and these challenges, paired with the top tier gameplay, make this a game that’s certainly worth trying out.

Alphabear

Alphabears is probably the most distinct game on this list due to its setting but, at the same time, it’s the most refreshing game as well because it’s gameplay is quite unlike anything that traditional world games have to offer and, while it does come with a steeper than usual learning curve, it’s still worth anyone’s while due to how fun it is.

All said and done, the aforementioned word games are those that we feel are the best we’ve had this year so it goes without saying that we recommend giving them a shot.
